Mucoprotein-containing histiocytes (muciphages) in the rectum.

چکیده
Mucoprotein-containing macrophages (muciphages) are a common finding in routine rectal biopsies, occurring in about 50% of cases. No correlation was found between their presence and the sex, age, and disease of the patient. They must be distinguished from the cells of Whipple's disease and from lipofuscin-containing macrophages. The origin of the mucoprotein is discussed and rectal epithelial mucin is considered a possible source.

Radiohistology and histochemistry of barium granuloma of the colon and rectum.
Barium granuloma of the colon and rectum is a rare complication of X-ray examination of the digestive tract using barium. The authors report 5 new cases occurring in the last 3 years. Histological examination revealed a granulomatous reaction with greyish finely granular refractile PAS-negative material located in the cytoplasm of histiocytes and in the interstitial space. The radiographic stud...
متن کاملUltracentrifugation studies of a urinary mucoprotein which reacts with various viruses.
The isolation from normal human urine of a highly viscous, electrophoretically homogeneous mucoprotein has been described previously (l-3). This substance combines with influenza, mumps, and Newcastle disease viruses and is altered enzymatically by them (l-6). This alteration in the mucoprotein results in loss of the capacity to combine with viruses and in reduction of the electrophoretic mobil...
متن کاملHistiocytic ulcerative colitis in a French Bulldog.
A 9-month-old French bulldog was referred for signs of chronic large bowel diarrhea. The dog had an increased frequency of defecation, tenesmus and hematochezia. Flexible colonoscopy showed hyperemia, irregularities and ulcerations with multifocal hemorrhages in the mucosa from the descending colon to the proximal rectum. Multiple colonic biopsies were characterized by infiltrations of PAS posi...
متن کاملSegmental colonoscopic biopsies in the differentiation of ileocolic tuberculosis from Crohn's disease.
BACKGROUND AND AIM The differentiation between Crohn's disease (CD) and tuberculosis (TB) of the intestine can be difficult in areas where both diseases occur. The present study examined histological criteria that would enable the diagnosis in mucosal biopsies. METHODS Colonoscopic biopsies from 33 patients with TB and 31 patients with CD were examined for several specific histological featur...
متن کاملCharacterization of gastric mucoproteins isolated by equilibrium density-gradient centrifugation in caesium chloride.
1. The mucoprotein from pig gastric mucus has been purified by equilibrium centrifugation in a CsCl gradient. 2. This procedure removes the non-covalently bound protein, which is closely associated with the mucoprotein and not easily removed from it by gel filtration. 3. The purified mucoprotein is separable by gel filtration into a high-molecular-weight mucoprotein A (mol.wt. 2.3x10(6)) and a ...
